as artists we came together to connect, as co-founders this is our story

I am a painter using acrylic and oil paint to explore personal yet universal themes of connection, disconnection, strength, vulnerability, pattern and disruption in our relationship to the socio-politic world. My paintings are found, not made. I work intuitively, bold shapes and forms develop through expressive layering of text, symbol, pattern and line. Painted in a primal and intuitive style I express the yearning for connection and belonging, which is often not met. The layering, looseness and rawness of the paintings suggests the multiplicity, messiness and incomplete nature of our human experience.
Founding Blue House, a collective space for the artist in us all, led by artists is a reflection of my belief that art is a universal language that connects us all. It is a space to come together, to inspire, make, show and talk art and creativity. Being in town and on the High Street is an opportunity to bring the creative process to the heart of the community and spread the well being that creativity can generate within the individual and the community itself.
I deeply believe in the power of collectivity and have always enjoyed being on my creative journey with like minded people. This changed for a little while in my life when I moved to the UK from Singapore and I felt isolated and alone. Even though I continued to paint all alone in my small studio at home I was dreaming that one day I will be with other artists in an art space where we will all be opening our doors to the wider community and just having a lot of fun. Little did I know that the universe was working in the background bringing me closer to three other lovely ladies who in their own world were having exactly this dream. An abstract artist I enjoy creating work that tells a story mostly stemming from emotions and memories.

I paint to seek serenity and working with watercolours is both compelling and calming. I have a fascination of our kinship with the ocean as land-dwellers. Despite the other worldliness of marine biodiversity, it is essential to our lives. I am engrossed in exploring these distant worlds to which we as human are tethered. I have learned from nature, as we so often do, that there is tranquillity in the repetition of form & pattern. Playing with the repetition of organic shapes and textures in my work is a process through which I find peace.
For me, joining Blue House was instinctive. I knew I wanted to enrich my art practice by meeting artists in person. With Blue House I have received a place in a community of creative thinkers, where making art is an integral part of who we are, we cannot help but feel connected & supported.
